Home Based Business and Hard Work Ethic

If you own your own small business and if it is a home-based business then you know it takes hard work ethic to make ends meet. Even though you work out of your home and your costs are lower you still have to work hard in order to make money. Many of the types of businesses that people run out of their home are quite competitive and there are many discounters in the market and you must compete with them on a price point from time to time.

This is why many home-based business operators work very hard to differentiate themselves from the competition and that hard work ethic is used to give above average customer service. In doing so the home-based business operator guarantees them selves continued word-of-mouth advertising and great referrals.

Many people think that they will get rich if they start a home-based business however nothing that is good is ever easy. A home-based business like any other business requires hard work and extra hours and it is often hard to separate your family life from your business life even if it is all in the next room.

Some home-based business people love the idea and would never go back to regular employment. While other people did not seem to separate out their personal from their business life and it becomes quite a hardship. Please consider all this in 2006.

Hard Work and Success - One Follows the Other

This is a tough time to be looking for a job. Many of my career success coaching clients are having difficulty getting interviews let alone landing a job. However, I heard a story not too long ago about a new MBA from NYU who got five job offers. He did it by creating unique resumes especially tailored to the job for which he was applying. This takes work, but in this fellow's case, the hard work paid off.

In the old days -- before computers -- creating unique resumes for every job for which you apply would have involved a mega amount of work. In the digital age, it's a lot easier. Spend a few minutes cutting and pasting and you have a unique resume tailored to the exact position for which you are applying. However, when I advise many of my career success coaching clients to adopt this approach, they balk. They argue that one resume is good enough. The truth is that one resume is not good enough.

In 1972, when I left college, I spent a lot of time writing a resume and cover letter. Then I took them both to the copy shop and had a whole lot of copies made. The only customization was typing the unique name and the address of the company at the top of the cover letter.

The digital age has changed this. Yes, it's easier to create documents on a computer. And that's exactly why your main "resume" should be a series of pieces of information that you can arrange in a way that is most likely to catch the eye of the recruiter who reviews it. In other words, one resume doesn't cut it -- you need to customize every resume because every job is unique. A one size fits all resume won't demonstrate that you are aware of and honor that uniqueness. This takes work, but it's worth it.

Then, once you get a job, you need to work hard at it. Dale Winston CEO of Battalia Winston International, an executive search firm in New York says, "When things are tough, you have to try harder." She advises her clients to expend 20% more time and effort than their colleagues. This isn't for everyone, but from personal experience, I can tell you it works. If you do this -- and I did -- you'll get a reputation as a hard worker, someone who can be counted on to deliver. And with that comes both job security in this uncertain economic climate and the fast track to getting promoted.

You can also volunteer for unpopular tasks. I once got a promotion because I volunteered to head my company's United Way campaign one year. Trust me, running the United Way campaign was not a job that many people wanted. I did a good job on the campaign and met a lot of senior people. One of them liked me and the work that I did, and offered me a job in his division.

The common sense point here is simple -- and sobering for those who are looking for career success shortcuts. Be willing to go the extra mile. Create custom resumes for every job for which you apply. Once you get a job, work harder than others. Volunteer for unpopular jobs -- and then do a great job. Yes, if you want to become an outstanding performer, it's important to be a lifelong learner, set and achieve high goals, and get organized. But it's also important to do something a lot simpler -- and totally in your control; be willing to work hard. Hard work will help build your brand and put you at the top of the promotion list, and bottom of the layoff list.

Hard Work Plus More Hard Work

In an interesting book by Malcolm Gladwell called Outliers, he makes the point repeatedly how the people or groupings of people that truly make it devote no less than 10,000 hours before they are slightly close to turning out to be successful. For instance Gladwell discusses the Beatles. The Beatles were a relatively below average band from Liverpool that played in small spots. They ended up going across to Hamburg to play there simply because they found a lot more women were keen on them and they also could get intoxicated every evening. An important requirement for young men.

But what they needed to perform in Hamburg was perform endless performances. Hour after hour of shows later on and they came back to the Britain an infinitely more polished band. In addition to the training they also needed to include some other tunes since their own collection was not extensive enough to complete the actual hours of their time they had to perform. This meant their own tunes improved as they procured on board a lot of the superior music they were performing in their shows. Hard Work, Easy Money = Work

Hard work, Easy Money, this may sound wrong but no matter what you do, work there has to be and the end result will be, little work, little return, hard work, big return. I am saying here that if you just sit and wait for the day to end you will paid but then do not complain about your wage, you are being paid what you are worth. Doing the same job but putting in that extra effort may not pay off in the first month or two but someone will take note and you will be rewarded.

If you are a sales person calling on clients and you spend half your day in coffee shops you will only earn half of what you could. I believe that one way to find out if someone wants to work is put him/her on a commission. Half will turn the job down, why, because they know that they will have to work, the other half will start and by months end you will know who is the worker and who is the coffee drinker.

When someone says to me I will work on commission, they have my attention and frankly by the end of the first week I will know if they are going to be good, fair or indifferent. How will I know, by the number of qualified calls they make.

You want to work from home, you must be pre-paired to put in the hard work. You will be your own boss and if you think that the business is just going to walk through the door, then don't do it but if you are going to put your heart and soul into what you choose to do, then it is great fun and you and your family will greatly benefit.

Marriage Requires Hard Work

This afternoon my wife and I went on a hike. We found a wonderful park in the Boston suburbs. As we walked along the trail we noticed something very special. There were a number of small walking bridges over the streams in this park. The bridges were well made. And that meant someone put a lot of time into building the bridges.

We often think that a marriage will grow automatically. But just as someone took the time to build those beautiful walking bridges, so you must put in the time to make sure your marriage grows and develops in a positive manner. In other words, marriage requires hard work.

When a couple comes to me for help they usually do not know how to maintain a good marriage. At this point it's just a matter of education. I will then teach them from the Bible how to solve their problems. Within a few weeks they will once again experience joy in their relationship.

But sometimes a couple will come to me for help. Down deep inside they do not want to do the hard work. This is evident by their refusal to do the homework assignments. By the fifth session there is no improvement. They may even be a little angry with me. They thought if they just came to counseling their marriage would automatically improve. But they failed to understand an important truth. Marriage requires hard work.

Years ago I served as pastor at a church in North Dakota. As a city boy from the east coast I sometimes felt out of place. I did not always understand their culture. But every year something happened which brought great joy to our lives. Every year someone in our church or community celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Please understand you don't maintain a good marriage for 50 years without hard work. Such hard work requires continuing education. You want to learn from the scriptures how to maintain a good marriage. You want to learn how best to love, help, and encourage your spouse.

If you do not know how to maintain a good marriage look around you in your church, family, and community for people who have a successful marriage. Look for a couple who has maintain Ask them to explain what they did to maintain a good marriage. Then commit yourself to doing the hard work to improve your marriage.

4 Reasons Why Not To Be Afraid Of Hard Work

Hard work is part of our daily walk. It will make you, break you, and take you above and beyond the normal. This will be extreme at first but adapting to the new routine will come over time. Accept the challenge to improve and do better on a regular basis. The more you push yourself in a positive direction then change will takeover and help will be found along way.

Hard work keeps you mentally alive. This is about keeping your brain actively working being constructive. When you are brain dead that means here your heart is pumping blood throughout your body, you are walking around, and your are talking sensibly. But the difference is that you are becoming stagnated with no new brain activity.

Hard work physically makes changes inside out. The body needs exercise which is good for the heart, cardiovascular system, and muscles. Providing endurance, stability, and stamina that will prod you to enhance your mental capabilities. As you choose to prove something to yourself a competitive attitude will be formed.

Hard work gives you spiritual support. With all endeavors that are sought after will never be completed without support. Along the way encouragement, motivation, and help from others will be needed. Everything will not be done alone because others will need be called on. If at any time you become self sufficient with no outside help then failure will be following close behind.

Hard work is an all around well rounded enlightenment process. During this experience it will provide learning, self growth, and personal enlightenment in many different areas of your life. Some of them will lead you into new territory that will appear to be strange and unusual at first. Learning things that you have never seen or heard of before expanding knowledge in unbelievable ways. Causing an explosive interest in continuing on new and informative journeys.

As I close pay attention to what is written because if you miss this part and do not understand it them all hope may be lost. First you need to know that this is a serious matter so no joking allowed. Second you need to know that if you wait until later to start implementing this advice then you will always be procrastinating. Third you need to know that all experiences acquired during your journey will need to be shared with others so that they can learn from your new knowledge. Forth I want to tell you to never hold back the positive flow of anything but always hold back all sources of negative flow that will cause headaches and troubles later on.

Is Hard Work Good, Bad Or Both?

In the beginning I was thinking about the side effects of hard work. Would they be good, bad or both? There is a such thing as working efficiently saving time and working inefficiently wasting time. The method I want to share with you will take hard and make it easier. Everyone is looking for an easier way to do things so this is what it would take to get things done at a faster and more organized fashion.

I. Ponder - Think about getting results in terms from the beginning to the end. How long will it last? What steps will be taken to get there? If these are consider and planned properly then very few changes will need to made after you have started. All it takes is preparation and planning. This will end with good results.

II. Pause - Briefly stop to check, check, and check to make sure of yourself. It is okay this will save time by preventing something from being done more than once. This is a good thing whichever way you look at it. Take your time and make sure that things are being done right even if you are behind schedule. In the long run it will pay off.

III. Procrastinate - Most people are against putting things off and I am to. But on occasions waiting is needed if more information is required to continue. This is when something else will need to be worked on until it is possible to get back on the other project. Do not make excuses to get away from it because that is when changing your mind to do other unrelated things is not permissible.

IV. Preview - Determine what is to come next so that you can decide how to get it done. Remember to make the necessary plans to implement and it will be possible. If at any time things starts to get out of hand look over what has been done, what is being worked on at the present, and compare them to what needs to be done.

The end result will be a finished project on schedule with very few unexpected problems encountered. Each problem would have been dealt with in a timely manner. Making it possible for some relaxation giving your mind time to refocus so that it could give 100 percent to the project currently working on.

Hard work is good unless an easier way is available to save time. But it is also bad if a large amount of time is wasted trying to find an easier way when the work could have been completed. So that means hard work is both.
